Reaching out to those struggling with their mental health, with information and signposting.

Hi, welcome to U-OK website and blog.

Whilst working with young people and communities for many years I became aware of how life's experiences can invade both our mental and physical being, preventing us from living the lives we hoped for.  To survive each day, we find ways to cope, to numb out or just get through the day.  This could be by using drink or drugs, but also shopping, work, social media, eating or anything we come to depend on; yet these very things can end up controlling us.  We are then left feeling defeated, with lots of head noise, anxiety, depression, fatigue, addictions and uncontrolled responses.

Like many others I have met, I found myself alone, weak and felt that I was to blame, I was confused as to how I could find a way forward.  Things changed for me when I found a way of reaching out and started my journey of self-awareness and acceptance.  While training in psychotherapy I have been increasingly aware of how many in our communities struggle to know what they need, how to get these needs met and be being able to access help it and if available to afford it.

'U-ok' is my way of helping to break down some of those obstacles.  By working together, bringing our insights, skills and sharing our knowledge in bite size pieces via our blog we can help those who struggle to find a way forward.   I'm based in Pocklington in East Yorkshire and whether you choose support from communities on line or within your local area I wish you all the best on your unique journey.
